In this guide, I am going to go through Forsaken, the free No Man’s Sky update 7.10 from 28 October 2026, and explain how to find haunting mementos, summon a forsaken trader and get the Larva Cannon. Forsaken is built around one new loop. You collect mementos at hulks, infested outposts, derelict freighters and planetary dig sites, and a forsaken trader at a deep-space outpost will take them in exchange for biomechanical corvette modules and a living Multi-Tool.

Around that loop, the update adds space courier missions, warping to nearby stars without the Galaxy Map, a Multi-Tool mode wheel, a Minimal HUD setting and a Holo-Arena challenger at deep-space outposts. Like every No Man’s Sky update, Forsaken is free, and no expedition came with it. The same day also saw the release of No Man’s Sky on iPhone and iPad.

Most numbers below come from the game files of version 7.11 and from the official patch notes. Forsaken (7.10) came out on 28 October 2026, and 7.11 followed on Steam on 29 October with two crash fixes.

What’s new in Forsaken

Forsaken touches quite a few parts of the game. In short, it adds the following:

  • Six kinds of haunting mementos at infested outposts, deep-space hulks, space junk, derelict freighters and palaeontological dig sites.
  • A boundary bar that drains near mementos and calls in boundary horrors.
  • Forsaken traders, summoned at any deep-space outpost, who trade 30 corvette parts for mementos.
  • The Larva Cannon, an A-class organic Multi-Tool for 5 Preserved Grubs.
  • The Mind Harvester title and the Larva Tank helmet for collecting 20 mementos.
  • Space courier missions for corvette owners with a Gravitino Coil.
  • Warps to nearby stars straight from space, without the Galaxy Map.
  • A mode wheel for the Multi-Tool and for starship weapons.
  • A Minimal HUD setting.
  • A Holo-Arena challenger at deep-space outposts.
  • Smaller changes such as the Oxygen Harvester anywhere on a planet’s surface and corvette pads at trading outposts.

Haunting mementos

Haunting mementos are the new collectibles of Forsaken and the only currency the forsaken trader accepts. There are six of them, all preserved specimens: Preserved Brain, Preserved Grub, Preserved Sample, Preserved Eyeball, Preserved Egg and Preserved Horror.

All six have the same base value. For corvette parts, it should make little difference which ones you offer. The only one with a special use is the Preserved Grub, because the Larva Cannon costs five of them. Any source can give you a grub, roughly one memento in six, and in space you should be able to scan a jar with the Analysis Visor to see which memento it holds before you haul it.

Where to find mementos

You will find mementos in five kinds of places. Most of them sit as jars inside points of interest in space, while on planets they are buried in caches, and the game places a random amount within each range:

  • Infested outposts hold 5 to 10 jars each, often floating freely, which makes them the richest source in space.
  • Deep-space hulks hold 3 to 5 jars, mostly in the torn-open parts of the wreck.
  • Space junk fields, called debris fields on the Star System Map, have 1 to 3 jars.
  • Derelict freighters have a single chest with 2 to 4 of the same memento, next to the final terminal of the freighter.
  • Palaeontological dig sites on planets hide 2 to 5 Haunted Caches with one memento each.

Dig site (Haunted Caches)2 to 5 caches, one memento eachDig with the Terrain Manipulator; straight to inventoryNo
Space jars only turn into inventory items in a deep-space outpost’s salvage processor. Do not shoot them: a destroyed jar drops a few nanites and the memento is lost. Commercial planetary charts point to a dig site about one time in seven.

In space, memento jars glow purple in the Analysis Visor, and to find the next hulk or infested outpost, you can check the salvage and delivery contracts terminal at a deep-space outpost. A contract that asks for infested materials such as Viral Heart will usually mark an infested outpost in the system, and one that asks for Fuel Rods, an Auxiliary Core or a Reactor Core should lead you to a hulk.

Dig sites and Haunted Caches

Planetary mementos are a little bit tricky, because only palaeontological dig sites hold Haunted Caches. You will recognise them by the half-excavated fossil in the middle. Ruins and the bone spots that Artifact charts point to will not have any caches.

In order to find dig sites, buy Commercial planetary charts from a cartographer, since Emergency and Artifact charts lead to other places. Each Commercial chart has roughly a one-in-seven chance to point at a dig site. Additionally, it seems to help to leave the other markers unvisited, as dig sites will then come up more often.

Once you are at the site, open the Analysis Visor and look for the purple cache markers, dig them out with the Terrain Manipulator and interact with the Haunted Cache to take the memento, which goes straight into your inventory without any corvette or trip to a salvage processor. Beware that opening a cache will knock a large chunk off your boundary strength, which usually means a horror or two (see the boundary horrors section below).

How to collect space mementos

Jars from hulks, space junk and infested outposts are physical salvage objects. You are going to need a corvette and a Gravitino Coil to bring them home. If you do not have the coil yet, its blueprint is sold by Iteration: Eos on the Space Anomaly.

  1. Equip the Gravitino Coil and grab a jar with it.
  2. Stow the jar in your corvette. If your corvette has a tractor beam, you can simply shoot the jar into it.
  3. Fly to a deep-space outpost.
  4. Throw the jar into the outpost’s salvage processor. It will breach the seal and give you the memento as an inventory item.

Do not shoot the jars with a weapon. A destroyed jar will drop only 20 to 45 nanites, and you will lose the memento inside. There are much better ways to farm nanites, which you can find in our No Man’s Sky nanites guide.

At hulks, grabbing the jars does not seem to push the hulk toward a meltdown. As such, it is a good idea to collect them first and do the rest of the salvage afterwards.

Best place to farm mementos

With a corvette, infested outposts are the best stop, followed by hulks. Without one, palaeontological dig sites are the way to go, since you can fire Commercial charts on one planet and never have to fly back to an outpost to process them.

Derelict freighters are the weakest option. A whole freighter run will only give you one chest at the very end, and I would only take the mementos along when you are running a derelict anyway.

Bear in mind that you are going to need a lot more than five mementos to get five grubs, since any memento only has roughly a one-in-six chance to be a grub. If the Larva Cannon is your goal, plan for several outposts or dig sites.

Boundary horrors

Collecting mementos comes with a risk. Whenever you are within about 15 metres of a memento jar, including while it hangs in your Gravitino Coil, a purple bar in the bottom-left corner of the screen will start to drop. This is your boundary strength, the same mechanic that came with the boundary horrors of The Cursed expedition.

The lower the bar gets, the more boundary horrors will appear, starting with a single one, then two, and arriving in packs of up to five or six once the bar is close to empty. Opening a dig-site cache or the derelict-freighter chest knocks a large chunk off the bar in one go, so you should expect a horror or two there as well.

In space, you will meet a new version of the purple spectral jellyfish from The Cursed, and on planets the dig-site caches call up the older boundary horrors from that expedition. They will not hit you hard, but they soak up a lot of fire, and fighting a whole pack is mostly going to be a waste of time and ammunition.

Staying safe is mostly about keeping the bar high:

  • Park your corvette close to the wreck, pull a jar toward you and shoot it into the tractor beam within a few seconds.
  • Do not carry a jar around in the coil for longer than you need to.
  • After a few jars, move off a little and let the bar recover.
  • At dig sites, give the bar some time between caches instead of opening all of them in a row.
  • Try not to let the bar run empty, since that is when the biggest packs appear.

If you came here looking for the boundary horror pet egg or the Boundary Horror Mandibles helmet, those are older items from the Holo-Arena pet shop and The Cursed expedition. Neither of them is a Forsaken reward.

Forsaken trader

The forsaken trader is a collector who flies in on a decorated corvette and swaps his unique pieces for your mementos. You summon him at deep-space outposts.

How to summon the forsaken trader

Summoning is free. It does not need a corvette, and you can call a trader at any deep-space outpost, whatever the system:

  1. Fly to a deep-space outpost. Space stations do not have the terminal.
  2. Walk to the Summoning Terminal at the edge of the outpost’s corvette landing pad. It has a purple icon and reads “Summon Forsaken Trader”.
  3. Interact with it. The trader will fly in on his corvette and land on the pad.
  4. Talk to him and choose “Browse Collection” to open his shop.

If a trader is already there, the terminal will simply tell you that he is near. Forsaken also comes with a short tutorial mission called The Forsaken, which asks you to meet a trader, harvest a memento and offer it, but you do not have to wait for that mission to start trading.

How offerings work

There is no price list. You choose a part, add mementos to your offering and read the trader’s judgement, which goes from Unacceptable through Displeasing, Has Potential and Passable up to Pleasing and tells you how likely he is to accept the offer.

Start with one or two mementos and add more until it reads Pleasing. A rejected offering costs nothing. You can simply try again with more, and since the judgement is about odds, even a Pleasing offer may not be a sure thing every time.

Spare mementos can also be sold to the forsaken trader for units. Make sure to keep five grubs aside for the Larva Cannon before you sell anything, and free up some inventory space before you trade. As of 7.11, buying parts with a full inventory can cost you the mementos without giving you the part.

What the forsaken trader sells

Every forsaken trader carries the same 30-piece collection, whatever his race or system, so there is no need to hop systems for a specific part. You will find four cockpits (Hornet-I, Viper-I, Mantis-I and the wide Vantage-Class), the Legion-Class Hab and Walkway, new thrusters, generators and wing modules, a set of biomechanical hull pieces and a new corvette weapon module called the Dematerialisation Ray.

The Legion-Class habs are the new interior pieces you can buy, and they open up the inside of a corvette quite a bit when you connect several of them.

Every forsaken trader carries the same 30-piece collection, whatever his race or system. The Chelone-Class Generator comes in two variants. The Larva Cannon is not in this list: it hangs on a display to the left of the trader.

Larva Cannon and Preserved Grubs

The Larva Cannon is a living, organic Multi-Tool and probably one of the most eye-catching rewards of Forsaken. It costs 5 Preserved Grubs, and you will not find it in the trader’s parts list, because it hangs on a separate display to the left of the trader that is easy to walk past.

  1. Collect 5 Preserved Grubs. Any memento source can give you one.
  2. Summon a forsaken trader and walk to the Multi-Tool display on your left as you face him.
  3. Choose “Make Offering” and hand over the five grubs.
  4. Compare the Larva Cannon with your current Multi-Tool, then add it to your collection or exchange it for the one in your hands.

If you back out on the comparison screen, the grubs should be refunded.

Every copy you buy will be the same A-class Alien Multi-Tool with the same fixed layout. There is no point in checking several traders for a better one. You will get it with a Mining Beam, Boltcaster, Scanner, Analysis Visor and Terrain Manipulator already installed, along with a few mining and Boltcaster upgrades and two X-class upgrade modules for the scanner and the Boltcaster.

Is it worth it? I would say yes if you like the look or if you are still using an early Multi-Tool, since it is a fairly solid upgrade at that stage. If you already own a good S-class tool, buy it for the looks rather than for its stats. Extra grubs are not wasted either, because they still count as normal mementos for corvette parts.

Mind Harvester title and Larva Tank

The Mind Harvester title and the Larva Tank helmet unlock at 20 haunting mementos. Space jars will count when the salvage processor turns them into items, and dig-site caches and the derelict-freighter chest will count as soon as you open them. Trading the mementos away does not matter for this.

The Larva Tank is a helmet override with a wriggling larva floating inside, and once you have it, you can equip it at an Appearance Modifier.

One point is still open. It is not clear whether a derelict-freighter chest with several mementos counts once or once per memento. To be on the safe side, plan for 20 separate caches or processed jars and treat anything less as a bonus.

Space courier missions

Space courier missions are new delivery contracts at deep-space outposts. You need a corvette and a Gravitino Coil to take one.

  1. At a deep-space outpost, open the salvage and delivery contracts terminal and take a delivery job, listed as a corvette haulage contract with names like Interplanetary Express or Stellar Dispatch.
  2. Collect the package from the outpost’s Delivery Management terminal with your Gravitino Coil.
  3. Stow it aboard your corvette.
  4. Fly to the marked post box on a planet in the same system and place the package in the delivery slot at the marked terminal. If it keeps slipping out of the coil near the box, you can shoot it into the slot.

Delivery jobs are one of the rarer outpost contracts. If the board shows none, try the outpost in another system. If you lose the package on the way, you can collect a replacement at the Delivery Management terminal or abandon the job in the Mission Log.

Deliveries will stay inside the current system, have no time limit and pay one random mission-board reward, which can be anything from units or nanites to an inventory expansion item or a stack of launch fuel, plus a point of standing with the faction that posted the job. The other outpost contracts give three points of standing and use a better reward table. I would see courier jobs as a calm side activity rather than a way to make money.

Seamless warping

This feature lets you jump to a nearby system straight from space, without opening the Galaxy Map. Only a few of the closest systems will light up as bright, targetable stars, usually around four. If your current mission leads to another system, the next star on the way will also carry the mission icon.

  1. Fly in space and look for a star that is brighter and larger than the rest.
  2. Aim at it and press the pulse drive button, which is Space on PC, L1+R1 on PlayStation and LB+RB on Xbox.
  3. The game will count down (“Initiating Warp Sequence in 8s”) and then start the usual warp tunnel.

You still need the right hyperdrive for coloured stars. The colour of a bright star matches the colour of its system, so you can tell from the sky whether your drive can reach it. Keep your hyperdrive fuelled as for any jump, because whether a jump from space costs the same fuel as one from the Galaxy Map was not confirmed when this was written.

If you start the jump in first person, the warp should stay in first person as well. The Galaxy Map is still the better choice when you want to check a system’s details before you jump.

Multi-Tool mode wheel

The mode wheel is a radial menu for your Multi-Tool modes. Hold the weapon-switch button for a quarter of a second to open it, which is G on PC, Triangle on PlayStation and Y on Xbox, and then pick the mode you want. A short tap will still cycle through the modes as before.

The same wheel works for starship weapons, which is probably the more useful part of it in a dogfight. In VR, try pressing and holding the gun select icon to open it.

Minimal HUD

The Minimal HUD hides most of the HUD elements and keeps mission notifications small. In order to turn it on, open Options, go to General and set HUD to Minimal, then apply the change. The setting is easy to miss, since it is just three letters in a long list.

Press H on PC, or D-pad Left on a PlayStation or Xbox controller, to bring the HUD back for a moment. It will hide again after a short while. Beware that some prompts can be missing in Minimal mode, such as the one for warping to a nearby star. Switch back to Full whenever something seems to be missing.

Space Holo-Arena

Deep-space outposts also have a Holo-Arena table with a new challenger, an easy opponent whose team mixes creatures from anywhere in the galaxy with one from the local system. A win will pay you 15 to 30 nanites and sometimes a Retroviral Pellet.

Smaller changes

  • The Oxygen Harvester can be built anywhere on a planet’s surface, even outside your base.
  • Planetary trading outposts have a corvette landing pad.
  • The deep-space materials from Cosmos, such as Viral Heart or Reactor Core, can be pinned in the Catalogue for guidance on where to find them.
  • Orbital constructions in deep space can be uploaded for other players to visit.
  • The void egg attracts living ships again after the Starbirth mission, and ships floating in space no longer burn launch fuel.

Known issues as of 7.11

As of 7.11, Forsaken still has a few bugs that can cost you mementos or trap you in your ship. Hello Games is testing fixes for most of them on Steam’s experimental branch (29 October 2026), but these fixes are not part of 7.11, and Hello Games had not given a date for them as of 30 October 2026.

  • Buying parts from the forsaken trader with a full inventory can lose your mementos. Free up some inventory space before you trade.
  • Some corvette parts were re-snapped or rotated by the update, and a part that blocks a doorway can trap you inside your corvette. The experimental fix lets edit mode delete such parts. Until then, saving and reloading while docked at a space station should put you outside, after which you can remove and replace the part.
  • Courier packages can drop when you leave the corvette, and some delivery boxes are hard to use.
  • Deliveries only go to planets in 7.11, and a space station variant exists on the experimental branch.
  • The experimental branch also fixes the Forsaken trader tutorial, part snapping and a black warp effect, and it improves the warp mission markers and the Minimal HUD.
  • The new landing pads changed the terrain around some trading outposts, which can damage player bases built right next to them.

Patch 7.11 itself fixed a crash with the teleporter in the Anomaly and a crash while warping, and it went live on Steam first, with the other platforms to follow as soon as possible.

Forsaken FAQ

Is there a Forsaken expedition?

No. Forsaken is a normal update, and everything in this guide is part of the regular game that you can do in any regular save.

Is Forsaken a limited-time Halloween event?

No. Forsaken is a permanent update. The mementos, the forsaken traders and the Larva Cannon will stay in the game after Halloween, so there is no need to rush.

Is Forsaken on Switch 2?

Not at launch. As of 29 October 2026, the Switch and Switch 2 versions had not received Forsaken, while the new iPhone and iPad version launched with it on 28 October.

Do you need a corvette for Forsaken?

Not for most of it. Summoning the trader is free, and the mementos from dig sites and derelict freighters go straight into your inventory, which means you will be able to get the Larva Cannon and the Larva Tank without owning a corvette. You only need a corvette and a Gravitino Coil for jars in space and for courier missions. If you are still early in the game, our No Man’s Sky beginner guide will help you get to that point.

Does Forsaken add forsaken planets?

No. Forsaken is the name of the update and of its traders, and it does not add a new planet type or new sentinels. Results about “forsaken” planets from before October 2026 have nothing to do with it.

Conclusion

Forsaken is a fairly small update, but it will give you a good reason to fly out to hulks and dig sites again. If you only want the Larva Cannon and the Larva Tank, then a few infested outposts with a corvette, or a stack of Commercial charts without one, is probably the way to go. Just remember to keep some inventory space free whenever you trade until the experimental fixes are live.
