Risen Guide To All Permanent Bonuses and Skills

Risen Header

This guide will quickly go through all permanent bonuses available through the course of a Risen playthrough. Knowing how many stats you can gain from various permanent bonuses can be very helpful in determining the amount of LP you want to invest in a specific stat and planning a build in general.

It should be mentioned that the LP cost of any stat you raise will always stay the same regardless of how high you go, but the gold cost is related to the total amount of that stat. So taking permanent bonuses early will make the price for training a specific stat go higher.

While gold usually is not a huge issue, it can be difficult to manage your finances in the early game in particular, so as a rule of thumb, you should invest your LPs into a specific stat before using the permanent bonuses.

Strength

  • +100 from brewing your own Strength potions
    • In order to brew a strength potion, you will need Ogerroots and Hero’s crown. The total amount of Hero’s crown in the game is 20, while there are 27 Oger roots.
    • This limits the number of Strength potions to 20, provided you want to invest all your Hero’s crowns into strength potions.
    • Other permanent bonus potions like the Potion of Dexterity also require Hero’s crowns.

  • +10 from finding Strength potions (+15 as a Mage/Warrior of the order)
    • 1 in the treasure chest in Leonardo’s house
    • 1 as a quest reward for “Talk to Esteban about the Vulcan Temple”
    • 1 as a quest reward for “Find the murderer of Hemlar” (Not as a bandit)

  • +7 from other Ogerroots

  • +5 from Apples/Eggs
    • After eating either 10 apples or eggs you will gain +1 strength. This only works 5 times though.

  • +2 from Harlok’s stew (not as a Bandit)

  • +2 from becoming a Mage or a Warrior of the Order (instead of +5 Mana)

  • +50 temporary by using the spell “Berserker”

  • +25 temporary with one amulet and two rings
    • +15 from Amulet of Strength (Smithing 3 needed)
    • +10 from Ring of Strength (Smithing 3 needed)

This makes a total of 122 bonus strength as a Bandit and as a Mage or Warrior of the Order 131, not counting the +25 temporary from amulets and rings or the +50 from “Berserker”.

Dexterity

  • +100 from brewing your own Dexterity potions
    • In order to brew a Dexterity potion, you will need Pixie hat and Hero’s crown. The total amount of Hero’s crown in the game is 20, while there are 25 Pixie hats.
    • This limits the number of Dexterity potions to 20, provided you want to invest all your Hero’s crowns into Dexterity potions.
    • Other permanent bonus potions like the Potion of Strength also require Hero’s crowns.
  • +10 from found Potions of Dexterity
    • 1 Potion behind Marvin’s house (you need a shovel)
    • 1 Potion on a barrel above the Bandit’s camp
  • +5 from leftover Pixie hats
  • +16 from Hunter’s Fry-up
    • Hunter’s Fry-up is a dish that you need to find the recipe for.
    • Requires:
      • Bag of Spices
      • Mushroom
      • Potatoes
      • 3 Raw Meat
    • Bag of Spices and Potatoes are the bottle neck
  • +20 temporarily from amulet and rings
    • +10 from Amulet of the Hunter or Hunting amulet
    • +10 from 2 Rings of Dexterity (you can find one, the other needs to be forged)

This makes a total bonus of 151 including temporary bonuses.

Life Energy / Maxium hit points

  • +46 from Druid’s hemlock
  • +60 from found Life Potions
  • +140 from brewing your own Life Potions
    • You need to use Hero’s crowns for the Life potion which is not advisable considering how there are only 20 in total and they can be used for Strength, Mana or Dexterity.
  • +32 from Meat-stuffed bread (+2 per meal)
    • Requires:
      • Bag of Spices
      • Bread
      • Onions
      • Raw Meat
    • Bags of Spices are the bottleneck and it is not advisable to use them for maximum life
  • +5 from becoming a Warrior of the Order or a Mage
  • +60 temporarily from wearing accessories
    • +20 from Amulet of Life or Amulet of the Warrior
    • +40 from 2 Rings of Strength

This makes a total of +343 life with temporary bonuses. However, as it is not advisable to use Hero’s crowns and Bags of Spices for life energy, the total value should be lower.

Mana

  • +85 from brewing your own Potions of Magic (+5 per potion)
    • You will need 10 berries per potion, as well as a Hero’s crown.
    • As with Dexterity, Life energy or Strength, the total amount of Hero’s crown is limited at 20, forcing you to choose which stat you will want to focus.
  • +20 from finding Potions of Magic (+15 as a Bandit)
    • 1 in a tower in the Volcano Keep
    • 1 in the southern Mountain Ruins
    • 1 in Pallas’ inventory
    • 1 as a quest-reward for “Find Hemlar’s murderer” (not as a bandit)
  • +32 from Plaice Melt (+2 per meal)
    • Requires:
      • Bag of Spices
      • Cheese
      • Potatoes
      • 3 Raw Plaice
    • As always, the Bag of Spices is the bottleneck, forcing you to choose which dish that gives permanent bonuses you want to focus.
  • +7 from becoming a Warrior of the Order or a Mage (instead of +2 Strength and +5 life energy)
  • +70 temporarily from accessories
    • +30 from Amulet of the Sorcerer
    • +40 from Rings of Magic (you can find one, while you have to forge the other)

Including the temporary bonus, this makes a total of +214 Mana.

Wisdom

+87 from all book stands (each book stand gives you +3 wisdom)

+136 from found stone plates (each stone plate gives +4 wisdom)

This gives you a theoretical value of +223 wisdom from bonuses. However, maximum amount of wisdom is capped at 200.

Fighting Abilites

There are no bonuses that raise your fighting abilities permanently. However, there are countless rings, amulets and weapons that can give you a temporary bonus.

  • Axe fighting
    • +2 from 2 Rings of the Axe fighter
    • +6 from Hammer of the Titan Lord (requires the complete Titan armor)
  • Sword fighting
    • +2 from 2 Rings of the Sword fighter
    • +1 from Bronco’s sword (25 strength, 30 damage)
    • +2 from Rapier (33 dexterity, 38 damage)
  • Staff Combat
    • +2 from 2 Rings of the Staff fighter
    • Bow skill
    • +2 from Amulet of the Hunter
    • +2 from 2 Rings of Hunting
  • Crossbow skill
    • +2 from 2 Rings of the Marksman
  • Crystal magic
    • +2 from the Amulet of the Mage

Conclusion

As you can see, there are a variety of bonuses for every stat that you can take with you. It is vital to plan ahead on what stat you want to level to what value in order to know how many LPs you want to invest beforehand.

As the price of each stat increases with its value, you will want to use your LPs first and use the permanent bonuses later in order to save money.

Additionally, you should realize that many of the permanent or temporary bonuses that you can acquire this way will require some sort of other skill. For example, brewing your own potions of Strength or Dexterity will require you to have Alchemy 3, which will also cost LPs. The same rule applies for rings and amulets that may require Smithing 2 or 3 in order to get them.

That being said, Risen is very generous with its permanent bonuses, giving you a lot of freedom when investing your LPs.

  1. Nameless Hero

There’s 7 Life Potions in the game, so overall +70. What about Druid’s Hemlock, I found only 45 of them. And as for additional info, I can say that I found 44 Wanderlust and 2 potions made of it.
